Introducing A New Firm Partner: Shelly R. Browning, CPA

It is with great pleasure that the Partners of Weinlander Fitzhugh announce that Shelly R. Browning, CPA has accepted our invitation to join the Firm as a partner, effective October 1, 2024.

Shelly has been an invaluable member of our team since 2008, contributing significantly to our growth and success. Shelly started with WF as an intern and joined us as a full time associate in 2009 upon graduation. With her extensive expertise in governmental, non-profit, and affordable housing project audits, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence and client service.

Over the years, Shelly has taken on numerous Firm projects. Shelly is the leader of the Firm’s Target Markets and Services strategic planning group and is an integral member of the Firm’s professional development committee which has planned and hosted numerous events including but not limited to Everything DiSC and StrengthsFinder, which are tools that we still use today.

Shelly is also the Firms governmental audit subject matter expert. In this role, she attends national conferences to keep abreast of the latest industry changes. She uses this knowledge to educate our team empowering them to exceed client expectations and driving our mission of being Mid-Michigan’s most trusted advisor. Her leadership and vision will be instrumental as we navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Shelly has been the face and voice of WF at numerous presentations regarding upcoming government standards (GASB 84, 87 and 96 to name just a few). These presentations are not just to our clients but to the communities as a whole. These presentations are not your typical training that consists of reading slides and paraphrasing the standards. Shelly literally puts herself in the hot seat and takes questions and provides guidance, which is so rare in our profession. Shelly is truly an advisor and a great example of what sets Weinlander Fitzhugh apart from our competitors.

Shelly holds a degree from Central Michigan University and has been an integral part of Weinlander Fitzhugh for over 16 years, earning her CPA certification in 2011. She is a graduate of RSM’s breakthrough leaders institute and RSM’s accelerators program. She is also actively involved in the Clare Area Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of North Central Michigan, and a Mid-Michigan College Foundation Board Member.

Shelly grew up in Clare where she continues to live with her husband, Ben and son, Tripp. Together they enjoy living an active life spending time at the lake in the summer and skiing in the winter. Of course, Tripp keeps Shelly and Ben busy with his sporting events, raising 4H pigs and social life.
